Making the city work: low paid employment in London. London : Queen Mary, University of London, 2007.
Findings from a 2005 London Citizens survey on the low paid workers who keep London ?working? (cleaners, hotel workers, and care assistants) show that recent migrants dominate the low paid sectors of London?s labour market, and that these workers earn wages barely above the legal minimum, receiving few benefits despite contributing considerably to the UK tax base. Part of a larger ESRC-funded research project entitled ?Global Cities at Work: migrant workers in low paid employment in London?, which is running until 2008.
